“BIGFOOT – Beyond the footprints”
New book By Mary A. Joyce

There is so much more to know about the Bigfoot than their footprints.  They have families. They have made friends with some humans. They have helped and even rescued people in trouble. They have preferences, language and unique biology. This book presents all this and more as reported by eyewitnesses and research scientists.

The 8.5 x 11-inch book is visually appealing too.  There are color photos throughout the book.  It has a glossy cover and the pages are printed on high-quality paper. It easily qualifies as a coffee-table book . . . and a great conversation starter.

The book is available through Amazon.  If you prefer to support an independent bookstore, then contact City Lights Bookstore in Sylva, NC by copying and pasting the following link into your Internet search bar:  https://www.citylightsnc.com/book/9780991181537, or call the bookstore at 828-586-9499.

Photo of Bigfoot cave entrance in rocky cliff
By Mary A. Joyce

Beyond the trees (L) is a nearly vertical rock cliff in the Southern Appalachian Mountains of NC. A human would need mountain gear to climb it. The lighter part at the top of the photo is not sky; it is more rock. Yet, the Bigfoot have a residence up there in a cave.  Thanks to my camera, I was able to “climb” there and get a look at the cave entrance.

So, why am I and a few area residents so certain it’s a Bigfoot cave?  Well, one woman actually saw a Bigfoot dash across the dirt road at the bottom of the ridge.  It was headed in the direction of a pond and an apple tree. Another woman reported smelling the foul odor often associated with Bigfoot as she drove by a main Bigfoot path. And, a few people have seen giant footprints.  Due to thick forest undergrowth, the prints are never crisp, but the enormous distance between steps helps confirm that they are genuine.

(L) A Bigfoot was seen crossing this road which is below the steep rocky cliff. (C) There was a six-foot stride between these two prints on a steep path between the road and the cave. It was too  much of an incline for humans to climb easily. (R) Each footprint was 16 inches in length

The yellow line shows the length of one of the long, skinny footprints.

We heard it running but only saw its odd footprints

The above photo and the following information are from Zander, a man we interviewed in 2016 about Little People who’ve been living on his family’s land in Eastern Tennessee for generations.  You can find the four articles we posted about those Little People in the 2016 archives of this section of the website.  Then we ran into Zander at the AlienXPO in Knoxville in August 2019 and he told us about another out-of-the-ordinary experience he and a friend had on his land in December 2018. – The editor

“When my friend and I were walking through the woods last December toward the entrance to the Little People’s underground home, we came upon a series of broken sticks and low-level broken tree branches. They were going in a straight line and eventually led to a cleared area at the top of a hill.

“We noticed there were footprints leading to the clearing and the stride between the prints was really, really long - maybe six feet between prints.  Each footprint was about two feet long and less than two inches wide. We didn’t see any toe marks so they must have been some kind of shoeprints.

We actually heard whatever was making the prints as it went through the dense woods.  It would go a certain distance and then stop, then we heard it take off again and stop. This stop-and-go pattern continued until we got to the clearing at the top of a hill.

“That’s when we saw three depressions in the ground in a triangular formation - like a UFO had landed there. But whatever we were following through the woods was gone.  I don’t know what it was. We never actually saw the being but we sure heard it and saw its trail of footprints through the woods.  We only can speculate that a UFO whisked it away.”

Russian Yeti expert says Bigfoot video genuine

The above photo is from a video of a Bigfoot taken by Michail Smirnov in North Russia in the Komi Republic.  It was published by Bigfoot Tony on May 14, 2019.  We decided it was worth posting because Igor Burstev, an internationally respected Yeti/Bigfoot researcher with the International Centre of Hominology in Siberia, visited the site and found Bigfoot footprints, wood structures and hair samples that he determined to be genuine.

The Bigfoot is seen in the video going from left to right, then right to left between the two yellow arrows we’ve added to the photo. Watch carefully after the sound of a buzzing mosquito, about two minutes into the video. In the later portion of the video, the camera zooms in and the audio is amplified.  – The editor

Face-to-face meeting with
Bigfoot Mama and Baby

EDITOR’S NOTE: Robin McCray has been interacting and communicating with Bigfoot since she was a young child.  Because of her abilities, she was invited to be part of a team investigating a very active Bigfoot cave in Siberia in late 2012.  While there, she saw a Bigfoot birthing cave. Then shortly after returning to the states, she had her first face-to-face encounter with a Bigfoot Mama and her baby in her own backyard.  Here is her account of that very special encounter.

(L) This baby Bigfoot drawing by Alex Evans is on display at the Exhibition Bigfoot Museum, south of Blue Ridge, Georgia on Highway 515.

“I was in my house and happened to look out a window,” Robin begins. “At first it didn’t register with me that it was a Bigfoot because she was walking around much like a human. When I went outside to find out who was in the yard, there she was standing in front of the tree line with her baby.

She was massive. She was a big girl - roughly 9.5 to 10 feet tall.  Of course, I didn’t measure her with a tape measure, but I made a mental note of her height compared to the tree behind her.  Later, I went back to that tree and determined her height.

“A friend of mine was with me but the Bigfoot Mama didn’t want her to come too close, so she stayed about 100 feet back.  I was allowed within 25 to 30 feet.

The Mama had extremely long hair, like the color of carrot-top human hair. The baby was more a chocolate-reddish color and covered with hair, but his face and chest were mostly bare and the hair on his arms was sparse.  His skin color was just a little bit lighter than his hair.  I should mention that Bigfoot skin color can really vary.  I’ve seen white, gray, black, light brown and tan.

“He was a cute little thing.  I have no idea if it was a boy or a girl but I felt strongly it was a boy.  He was about 2.5 feet tall.”

EDITOR’S NOTE: Though 2.5 feet might not seem that small, when we did a ratio comparing the Bigfoot Mama and her baby to a 5.5-foot human mother and her baby, the human baby would be less than 18 inches tall.  Newborn humans range from 18 to 22 inches in length.

Then the little guy put on a show.  He would climb up a tree about 2-3 feet, climb down and then run to the next tree and the next tree, always climbing about 2-3 feet up and then back down.  The mother was very attentive.  When he climbed a tree, she was right behind him.  When he went too far from where she wanted him to be, she would bring him back to the first tree and the game would start all over. It was kind of funny.

“Finally, she held him up against her chest and walked off.  I followed her for maybe 75 feet, then in mind speak, she said ‘This is as far as you can go.’ As soon as I started to follow her, she must have cloaked because suddenly I couldn’t see her. It was like she vanished into thin air.

“Before this meeting happened, there had been Bigfoot activity all over the woods on our property, so I felt this meeting was a deliberate test to see how I was going to react.  I’m sure if I had reacted badly, they would have been all over me to protect the Mama and her baby.  But I wasn’t shocked; I wasn’t frightened.  In fact, I was entranced and so in love with the fact that she let me see her and her baby.”

General Mark Milley, 39th U.S. Army Chief of Staff – The photo on the left
was taken during his speech for the 100th anniversary of the ROTC.

Little Green Men real says U.S. Army Chief

Sometimes military acknowledgements of extraterrestrials are buried deep, like precious gems, in the sleep-inducing speeches of generals.

One of those gems was revealed by Gen. Mark Milley, the 39th U.S. Army Chief of Staff, during his long keynote address for the ROTC Centennial Symposium at Norwich University in Vermont on April 21, 2016.  In the three years since then, it has pretty much gone unnoticed. The portion of his speech containing the gem is transcribed below.  – The editor

“If the world of 1916 was complex or if the world of 1945 was complex, the world of 2016 is intensely complex.  And I can tell you that from personal experience and I know there are plenty others who can tell you that as well, and you will graduate and be in that world.

“And you’re going to be leading the soldiers, the sailors, the airmen and the marines in that world.  You’ll be dealing with terrorists.  You’ll be dealing with hybrid armies.  You’ll be dealing with Little Green Men.  You’re going to be dealing with tribes.  You’ll be dealing with national and local leaders.  You’ll be dealing with politics and economics. And, you’ll be dealing with direct fire and indirect fire. And you’re going to be dealing with it all, and it’s all going to be dealt with simultaneously. And for that, you’re going to have to be ready.”

If you wish to watch and listen the general’s entire speech, copy and paste this video title into your YouTube search bar: Todd Lecture Series: General Mark Milley, U.S. Army Chief of Staff.

Discovery of a Yeti/Bigfoot birthing cave
By Mary Joyce, website editor

According to The Siberian Times newspaper, a betting group in Ireland called “Paddy Power” challenged Igor Burstev with the International Centre of Hominology in Siberia, Russia to prove the existence of the Yeti.  The Irish group offered £100 on a £1 bet if evidence of the Yeti could be presented to them.

Well, Igor Burtsev took up the challenge. On September 27, 2012, he led a group of about 30 people to a very active Yeti cave in the Black Mountains of Siberia.  There were scientists, Yeti/Bigfoot researchers and members of the press in the group.  Robin McCray, an American Bigfoot contactee, also was invited to participate.

While everyone else was OOHING and AAHING over one giant footprint on one side of the large cave, Robin quietly went to the other side and found a tiny little stream with “a ton of footprints” around it.  When she rejoined the group, a more unique discovery was made.

Photos are from Igor Burtsev’s photo collection: (1) Yeti footprint in cave, (2) Yeti nest in cave, (3) Igor at entrance to small chamber behind nest, (4) Robin McCray in Siberia

“There was a Bigfoot nest just beyond the solitary giant footprint,” Robin explains. “It was about 6.5 feet long and 5.5 feet wide. It was right in the entrance to a very small chamber.”

Because Robin has been able to telepathically communicate or “mind speak” with the Bigfoot since she was a child, she asked them about the purpose of the nest and chamber.

“First of all, they let me know they weren’t happy with all the people in their cave,” Robin says. “Then they showed me a mental image of a chestnut-colored female Bigfoot laying in that nest and a really young baby and a toddler in the chamber behind her. The tiny one was really close to the mother.

“In mind speak, they told me, ‘This is where some of our females go to have their babies.’  They added that another female would be there to assist with the birth.

“As for the chamber, it was used to keep young ones from getting out and running around. The mother and the nest literally blocked them from escaping.”

Bigfoot and their Shetland pony

Robin McCray (L), one of the speakers at the 2019 Georgia Bigfoot Conference has been interacting with Bigfoot since she was four years old.  Her information and stories about them would equal a volume or two of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.  Here is one of her short and quite sweet Bigfoot stories. – The editor

“At one time, I lived on 10-acres of mostly wooded land,” she explains, “and I had a Shetland pony that could not be kept within a hotwire.  He could not be kept within a fence.  He’d climb it, jump it, run through it, trash it.  So, this pony lived tethered on a 250-foot boat rope because he could not be contained any other way.

“Well, the Bigfoot were fascinated by the pony and loved playing their game of ‘Let’s Move the Shetland Pony.’  Now the pony was always tied to its rope when I went to bed at night, but in the mornings, I’d find the rope untied and the pony retied in various places on the property.

Knots the Bigfoot tied in the pony’s rope were not simple loops.

“When the Bigfoot didn’t anchor the pony down with tight knots in his rope, they draped the rope around the trees. If the pony had done that just by walking around, the rope would not have been above his head.

“They also took care of all the pony’s needs. His feed bowls and water bucket would be taken into the woods.  Finally, I used a half drum as a water bucket.  Even that didn’t slow the Bigfoot down.  They dragged that thing around the woods and everywhere.”

“I also saw evidence that the young Bigfoot were enjoying pony rides.  I would find muddy handprints on the pony and little tiny muddy butt prints on his back.”

Crayfish hunter finds Bigfoot footprint

EDITOR’S NOTE: We met Eric Hollifield and his wife Jess and son Oryn at the Georgia Bigfoot Conference on April 27, 2019.  When we saw his casting of a Bigfoot footprint on display, we stopped to talk with him. Here is what he told us.

“My name is Eric Hollifield and I live in Rabun County, Georgia. About a year ago September, up near Lake Burton in the Timpson Creek community of the county, my son and I were putting out cups we made to catch crayfish. They like to get up little stream branches of larger creeks.

“So, we were walking up a creek branch and found some tracks in the water.  We didn’t know what they were but they were interesting and just strange.  I always keep a little camera with me, so I took pictures.

“When I showed the photos to some friends, they said, ‘Well it’s not a bear.  It’s pretty weird.’

About a week later on land near the first track, we found another similar one. So, I ran to Walmart and got two boxes of that plaster stuff.  I’ve never tried to make a casting in my life but I poured that in the track and placed a big box over it because I was afraid it would rain and ruin it. When I went back, it was still there and I pulled it out of the ground. That’s how I got what I think is a Bigfoot footprint.

I was a skeptic about Bigfoot before this happened, but I think this footprint is real. I’ve had people look at it and it’s been on display at the Exhibition Bigfoot Museum in Blue Ridge, Georgia.  The owner, David Bakara, feels like it’s authentic too.  I brought it here to the Georgia Bigfoot Conference because I knew people who’ve been researching Bigfoot for years would be walking by and might give me some insights.”

Editor’s explanation of above photos: I took a photo of Eric’s casting of a Bigfoot footprint, but it was in a glass-covered display case and the details are lost in the photo.  For that reason, I reduced the photo to a high-contrast gray-tone image so a few more details could be seen.  Notice that the big toe juts out to the left which may indicate it sometimes might be used like a thumb.  The print measures 14 inches long and 9 inches at its greatest width.  That is not an extraordinary size for a Bigfoot but compared to the human footprint on the right, the proportions of length to width are noticably different.

Woman’s Bigfoot dreams become real
By Mary Joyce, website editor

Late in 2018, Evelyn Gordon and I met with Rivette Hill (R) to see the giant spearheads she found on her property near Nantahala Lake in Western North Carolina. While we were there, we mentioned that the terrain around her home is typical Bigfoot territory.

With an “Oh, my goodness,” she recalled a Bigfoot dream she had in 2013, the year after her family bought their property. It was the first time she’d had such a dream. Stunningly, the next day she and her family went hiking in the Joyce Kilmer National Forest and came upon a giant footprint by a stream flowing through the forest.

Since our visit with Rivette, she’s become acutely aware of Bigfoot signs all around her. She’s been awakened from Bigfoot dreams by loud wood-knocking associated with Bigfoot. She’s sensed their presence in the woods.  She’s picked up their telepathic messages that are then authenticated in some very real way.

Then on February 26, 2019 she came upon a tent-like stick structure – the type associated with Bigfoot.  It was about eight feet tall. As if to assure Rivette that the “tent” was their creation, it appeared overnight on land she had walked the day before while checking herbs she grows and harvests.

When she looked up, she saw young poplar trees bent in arches about 6-8 feet above the “tent.”  They had been standing tall and straight the previous day. Interestingly, that same day a Bigfoot made contact with a man who lives about 15 minutes away from Rivette.

Brand-new Bigfoot movie script
By Mary Joyce, website editor

Evelyn Gordon and I met Holly Roark (L) in the late 1980s and saw the launch of her film career as a production assistant at Universal Studios in Orlando.  Since then, she’s worked as a production manager and location manager for projects at Universal, Disney, Nickelodeon, Children’s Television Network, Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and more.

Through the years, we’ve remained friends and she closely follows this website.  In fact, it was our Bigfoot postings that inspired her to write a brand-new film script about the elusive forest creatures.  As part of her research, she spent a week with us in the North Carolina Mountains so we could give her a tour of Bigfoot territory.  We also brainstormed about a film storyline that would show an accurate and compassionate portrayal of Bigfoot.  It’s simply not accurate to always cast them as monsters.

Synopsis for “Our Bigfoot Neighbors” script

This is not your ordinary action story of hunters chasing down Bigfoot, and Bigfoot terrorizing the hunters.  Yes, both of those things happen, but there is a much deeper story of love and family ties that shows Bigfoot in a completely different light than ever before.

A Bigfoot family finds an unconscious pregnant woman in the forest and takes her to their high mountain cave and delivers her baby. Because of amnesia, the woman lives with the Bigfoot for several months and bonds with them.  She has no memory of her husband and three other children.

A rescue party, comprised of her husband and some hunters, find her and the baby and reunite them with her “real” family, while the Bigfoot escape.  She has to get to know her family all over again but yearns for her Bigfoot family.  Her night dreams take her back to the pond where she swam and bathed with the Bigfoot.  Her daydreams are to be reunited with the Bigfoot and introduce them to her own family.  With that goal in mind, she and her children take regular hikes looking for their mother’s other family.

The hunters continue to pursue the Bigfoot with hopes of capturing or killing them for fame and fortune.  She and her family finally get to connect with the Bigfoot while the hunters close in for the kill.  A horrible accident ensues with grave injuries.  Who survives?  Does she get her memory back?  Do they ever see the Bigfoot family again?

NOTE:
If anyone with film business connections would like to read the script, send your request to Holly at hollyroark@gmail.com.

Three-year-old Casey Hathaway survived alone in the North Carolina woods,
tangled in briars and vines, from January 22 to 24, 2019.

Could lost boy’s “bear” have been a Bigfoot?
By Mary Joyce, website editor

By now, Casey Hathaway’s survival story is old news with a happy ending, but questions remain.  How could a three-year-old survive alone, tangled in briars and vines, for three days and two nights in rain, wind and freezing January temperatures???

Well, according to a Facebook post by Casey’s aunt, Breanna Hathaway, “He said he hung out with a bear for two days.”

Well, that brings up another question.  Aren’t North Carolina wild bears hibernating in January??? So, is it likely that a groggy bear stayed awake at least two days to help and comfort a shivering little human???

Have wild bears, even groggy ones, ever been known to save humans of any size???

According to Professor Chris Servheen (L), a bear researcher at the University of Montana, “I’ve never known such a thing to happen. Bears don’t do that.”

Now to the question we’ve heard repeatedly since Casey’s bear story hit the news. Could Casey’s bear have been a Bigfoot???

There really are reasons the boy’s bear might have been a Bigfoot.  First, the three-year-old most likely never saw or even heard of a Bigfoot, so “bear” would have been a good description from a little boy.

Second, Casey was lost in typical Bigfoot territory – rugged woods.

Third, throughout history there have been reports of Bigfoot interacting with humans, generally with people who are spiritual and live close to nature.  There are even stories of Bigfoot rescuing people. While on some occasions Bigfoot scare people away by throwing stones and making threatening motions and sounds, they seldom have hurt humans. Those who have been attacked generally have been hunters in pursuit of the Bigfoot.

Fourth, there have been Bigfoot sighting reports in counties near Craven County where little Casey was lost.

In a 2015 report by the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization (BFRO) there were Bigfoot sightings listed for Carteret, Onslow, Pender, Duplin, Sampson and Greene counties.

Note: Casey was lost in Enrul, NC which is a rural area north of New Bern in Craven County.

Bigfoot “knocked” at two homes in Murphy, NC

EDITOR’S NOTE:  On January 9, 2019, we received the following Bigfoot sighting report from Keith, a resident of Murphy, NC. Even though his sighting was about eight years ago, we felt it was worth posting because he does such a good job describing his experience.  Also, it happened about 30 miles north of the Exhibition Bigfoot Museum in Cherry Log, Georgia where I will be speaking on February 2, 2019, so we thought it was an old yet timely report.

“I had just dozed off only to be startled by a couple of good thumps on the outside wall of my house.  I wasn’t sure what made the noise, so I stayed still and listened.  Not hearing anything else, I started to doze again only to hear another thump followed a couple minutes later by another.

“My house is at the base of a hill and I always find rocks up against the house, so I assumed rocks had rolled down and bumped the house.  I went to sleep not thinking anymore about it.

“I was awakened the next morning by a text from my elderly neighbor who asked if I could come by her house and check to see if she had a tree branch that could be thumping against the side of her house because it kept her up all night.

“She is about 500 yards down the hill from me, so it was unlikely rocks could have been thumping her house as well.

“I got up and made myself a coffee and although it was January or February, I went out on my deck to drink it because it was mild weather.  While drinking my coffee, I heard what sounded like something walking through the woods to the side of my house.  Thinking it might be deer or turkeys, I walked to the end of my deck to get a better view.

I saw this thing that stood maybe 6 feet tall, but probably less because I'm 6'2” and I checked myself against one of the trees afterwards. It was covered in hair and was walking upright no more than 20 yards away. I wasn't wearing my glasses so I couldn’t see details, but it didn't have a snout like a bear and its arms were longer than a bear’s.

“I watched it for maybe a minute as it was crossing behind my house. It was almost out of view when I yelled "HEY.” It never even looked at me but turned and ran straight up the hill on two legs and after about 20 seconds it was gone.

“I was a little freaked out not knowing what I saw but I went downstairs and out the back bedroom door to see if there was any sign of the visit. Near where I had heard the thumping the night before, the ground was packed down like something had been there pacing around.

“I got dressed and went to my neighbor's house.  The ground on the side of her house where she had heard the thumping was also packed down.

“Later, I called the Bigfoot place in Asheville and was told that I probably saw a local version of Bigfoot which doesn't get very tall. The guy said the Indians have been seeing them for years. They were going to come out and investigate but rain for the next couple days washed away anything before they could come out. I looked for footprints but didn't see anything because there were so many leaves on the ground.”

Bigfoot rescued Civil War soldier
By Mary Joyce, website editor

I listened to a captivating reading of an old letter written by a Civil War soldier who was mortally wounded and then rescued by a family of Bigfoot.

The letter is preserved in a YouTube video titled “A Remarkable Civil War Bigfoot Encounter” that was posted on the Dixie Cryptid YouTube channel.

Sadly, there was no information about the owner of the YouTube channel or how he got the old letter. So, I began investigating.

I tracked down the owner of the channel but he asked that I use his alias “Cameron” if I posted anything about the video.  Then he explained how he had gotten the letter.

“I have a friend who is a community college instructor and published author who writes scholarly articles and books,” Cameron said.  “When I told him about my YouTube channel and its subject matter, his eyes perked up and he told me I needed to read something he had. It was a letter he had obtained while doing research for a book and was loaned to him by the family of the Civil War soldier. The letter is authentic in my view just because of the paper and cursive style of writing.

“The whole letter seemed to be a condensed memoir of his exploits during the war and he wanted to leave a record for later generations,” he continued.  “It is only toward the end of his letter that he writes about forest people who nursed him back to health.”

It should be pointed out that the terms “Bigfoot” and “Sasquatch” originated long after the Civil War which mostly likely is the reason the old soldier called them forest people.

“My friend asked me to keep the source of the letter anonymous for two reasons,” Cameron explained. “First, his credibility would be harmed if he were associated with anything like this.  Again, he does scholarly work and his peers would disown him.

Secondly, I know from my own experience there are Bigfoot enthusiasts who would find my friend and harass him, and me.  They would flood an area in which the story takes place whether the land is private or not, and they’d camp out without permission.  Trust me, it happens.”
